Abstract: The present report contains a summary of the results of Phase I of the German Norwegian geoscientific co-operation. This joint research program entitled "BASIN ANALYSIS AND RESERVOIR STUDIES" was initiated by H.I. Ager-Hansen (Vice President of Statoil company), Dr. P.R. Stokke (Statoil) and Prof. D.H. Welte (KFA Jülich). The project started in the second half of 1989 and was concluded by the end of 1992. It comprised a total of eight individual projects within which ten German and nine Norwegian research groups jointly investigated basic problems concerning the geologic evolution of sedimentary basins and the formation of petroleum reservoirs. Table 1 shows an overview of the titles of the individual research projects, the participating institutes and the project leaders. As indicated by the general title of the joint research program the co-operation was subdivided into two main groups of research topics: The projects of group A (Table 1a) with the sub-title "BASIN ANALYSIS" involved regional studies directed towards the investigation of the evolution of the northern North Sea basin and the north-west European continental margin, in particular the assessment of the sedimentologic inventory (A-1), the reconstruction of the thermal history as affected by rifling periods andvolcanism (A-4) and the mapping of stress fields (A-2).
